Gebruik:

• Lange actie ( beschrijvend) in het verleden.
• I was having (lang)a bath when the phone rang (kort).
• I was walking (lang) down the street when I saw (kort) an accident.

Ik las een boek. --> past simple

Simple Past

 

Wat is de Simple Past? (verleden tijd)

Iets dat duidelijk in het verleden gebeurde, en nu afgelopen is.

signaalwoorden: yesterday, last week, last summer, etc.

 

Werkwoorden in de Simple Past

• bij regelmatige werkwoorden in de simple past gebruik je de stam + ed.
• I talk --> I talked
• I walk --> I walked
• She works --> She worked

 

bij onregelmatige werkwoorden in de simple past is er geen vaste regel. Deze onregelmatige werkwoorden moet je uit je hoofd leren! (vanaf pagina 161 in je TB)

I go --> I went

We write --> we wrote

She sees --> She saw

 

 

Past Continuous UITGEBREIDE UITLEG

 

Vorm:

• vorm van ‘to be’ + WW + ING
• WAS / WERE + WW + ING     
• We were studying then.We waren toen aan het leren. 
• She was cooking diner and was talking on the phone. Ze was aan het koken en aan het telefoneren.

 

Gebruik:

• Je gebruikt de past continuous om aan te geven dat iets op een bepaald moment een tijdje aan de gang was. In het Nederlands zeg je dan vaak ‘was aan het’
•  
• Je gebruikt de past simple en de past continuous in één zin om aan te geven dat iets gebeurde (past simple) toen er iets al een tijdje aan de gang was.
• My girlfriend was calling a friend when I ran into you. Mijn vriendin was een vriend aan het bellen toen ik je tegenkwam.
